From November 12 to 15, 2024, the University of Panama was the venue for the fourth training of the CLIMAR project. This project coordinated by ULPGC and OBREAL is part of our commitment to strengthen research and innovation in the context of tourism and climate change in Latin America.
During these days, more than 15 participants from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Italy and Ireland immersed themselves in a program full of dynamic and enriching activities, including:
- Academic tour to the PanaSea Project in Colon, where we explored sea cucumber initiatives and their environmental impact
- Interactive workshops on the design of climate change indicators for tourism destinations, led by experts
- Inspiring talks on the challenges and opportunities of climate change in Panama, presented by leading specialists from the Ministry of Environment and the Panama Canal Authority.
In addition, the event included visits to community projects of the Canal Authority, where sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and local communities were promoted.
We thank the University of Panama and all the speakers for their dedication and for making this training a collaborative learning space.
The skills generated in these training sessions will be used in postgraduate courses and professional training for stakeholders in the tourism ecosystem.
And it doesn’t stop here! The next meeting will be in Bogota in February 2025, so let’s continue working together towards a more sustainable and resilient tourism!
