CLIMAR holds its international conference on tourism and sustainability in Mar del Plata

The Erasmus+ Capacity Building CLIMAR project: Strengthening research, innovation, and knowledge transfer on climate change and tourism in higher education institutions in Latin America held three days of international collaborative work in Mar del Plata, Argentina, at the end of November.

The meeting took place within the framework of the CLIMAR project activities and brought together representatives from all partner universities in Latin America and Europe, along with strategic partners, consolidating a space for academic exchange and international cooperation around the challenges of climate change in tourism.

Institutional openness and international cooperation

The conference opened with the participation of academic and project authorities, including host dean Esther Castro, outgoing rector of the National University of Mar del Plata, Alfredo Lazzeretti, and Javier de León Ledesma, general coordinator of the CLIMAR project and professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This meeting helped strengthen inter-institutional ties within the CLIMAR consortium and advance a common agenda focused on sustainable tourism and bi-regional cooperation between Europe and Latin America.

Seminars, workshops, and training

Over the course of three days, training seminars, working groups, and academic discussions were held, focusing on sustainable tourism, climate change, and territorial resilience.

One of the highlights was the analysis of the results of the survey given to participants in the postgraduate course on Sustainability in Tourism, one of the core training activities of the CLIMAR project, taught by professors from various partner universities.

The course aims to strengthen professional and academic skills from an international perspective, promoting innovative approaches to tourism management in the face of the impacts of climate change.

A committed bi-regional consortium

The CLIMAR project brings together a network of higher education institutions in Latin America and Europe, together with strategic partners, committed to the development of applied knowledge, continuing education, and the transfer of results to the tourism sector.

The holding of these international conferences reaffirms the CLIMAR project’s commitment to promoting sustainable, inclusive, and resilient tourism models and to strengthening international academic cooperation in the face of current environmental challenges.
